Since 2020, the Guyanese Government has undertaken a transformative effort to tackle urban overcrowding in Region 4 (Demerara–Mahaica), resulting in the allocation of over 14,000 house lots across key communities, including Greater Georgetown, La Bonne Intention, Great Diamond, and Two Friends. This initiative forms a core part of the government’s broader housing agenda, led by the Ministry of Housing and Water, aimed at delivering 50,000 house lots by 2025. Nationally, over 40,800 residential lots have already been distributed between August 2020 and early 2025, with Region 4 receiving the largest share—about 61% of the total or approximately 24,500 lots—due to its high population density and growing urban demand (Ministry of Housing and Water, Annual Report 2024). In 2023 alone, the region saw the allocation of 7,118 lots, marking it as the top-performing region in the national rollout (Guyana Chronicle, January 2024).
The impact goes beyond just land distribution. The government’s housing strategy includes the development of fully serviced communities with essential infrastructure—such as roads, drainage systems, electricity, and potable water—to ensure that these house lots evolve into livable neighborhoods. These developments are being supported by a record $112.6 billion allocated to the housing sector in Budget 2025, which also includes funding for new turnkey homes and expanded support services for first-time homeowners (Guyana Budget 2025 Highlights). Beneficiaries in Region 4 have also gained access to subsidies for construction materials through the government’s Steel and Cement Assistance Programme, and the Core Home Support Programme, which helps low-income families begin home construction with financial and technical support (Department of Public Information, July 2021).
Special attention has been given to clearing the backlog of applications from as far back as 2019, with a focus on equitable distribution. In 2024, nearly 46% of the house lots nationwide were allocated to women, reflecting a commitment to gender inclusion in housing access (Ministry of Housing and Water, 2024). Programmes like “Dream Realised” have also fast-tracked land titling and distribution, bringing security and opportunity to thousands of Guyanese families. In Region 4, the allocation of more than 14,000 house lots since 2020 has not only reduced overcrowding but has also fostered the creation of vibrant, new communities. This is not just about land—it’s about real homes, real opportunity, and real progress for the people of Guyana.

Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
t is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using ‘Content here, content here’, making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for ‘lorem ipsum’ will uncover many web sites still in their infancy. Various versions have evolved over the years, sometimes by accident, sometimes on purpose (injected humour and the like).
Contrary to popular belief, Lorem Ipsum is not simply random text. It has roots in a piece of classical Latin literature from 45 BC, making it over 2000 years old. Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, looked up one of the more obscure Latin words, consectetur, from a Lorem Ipsum passage, and going through the cites of the word in classical literature, discovered the undoubtable source. Lorem Ipsum comes from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of “de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum” (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero, written in 45 BC. This book is a treatise on the theory of ethics, very popular during the Renaissance. The first line of Lorem Ipsum, “Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..”, comes from a line in section 1.10.32.
