Guyana’s push to expand international connectivity continues with the announcement that Canadian carrier Air Transat will enter the market in December 2025. Public Works Minister Juan Edghill confirmed the airline’s planned debut, making Air Transat the tenth international airline serving Guyana. Beginning December 16, 2025, Air Transat will operate non-stop flights between Toronto Pearson International and CJIA twice weekly (Tuesdays and Fridays). The seasonal service is expected to run through April 2026, catering to winter travel demand.
Edghill made the disclosure while welcoming KLM Royal Dutch Airlines at its inaugural flight ceremony, underlining the government’s broader agenda to position Guyana as a “major hub of connectivity.” “The more carriers we get into Guyana, the more we are opening up the world in positive ways,” Edghill remarked. Over the past four years, Guyana has seen a surge in foreign visitors – many scouting business opportunities in the booming oil economy – and officials believe additional air links will further stimulate tourism and commerce.
The introduction of Air Transat marks the first direct Canada–Guyana flights by a Canadian leisure airline. It will particularly benefit the large Guyanese diaspora in Toronto, offering convenient travel home for the holidays and beyond. Industry observers note that this development comes amid record passenger arrivals in Guyana, which topped one million in the first half of the year. With Air Transat’s entry, travelers will have more options and competitive fares on the popular North America–Guyana corridor. Guyana’s aviation authorities are ramping up airport services and infrastructure to accommodate the growing number of airlines and flights, as the country cements its status as a burgeoning regional air transit hub.
